In 2010, University College London researchers found that on average it took participants 66 days to form a habit.

To reach the automaticity point where the new habit was being performed automatically, without any thought.

Of course, some took 18 days, some 84 and some even took 254 days to form a self-chosen habit, the researchers revealed.

Robin Sharma, bestselling author and leadership coach further divides it into three stages:

  1. Destruction phase, where the old habits are destructed.
  2. Installation phase, where there is mess and confusion because the old is gone but the new one is not yet completely adopted.
  3. Integration phase, where the new habit becomes a part of our lives and we start performing them automatically.

Here is a video explaining these three stages:

QUESTION TIME

Have you tried building a new habit but failed at it spectacularly?

Did you stick to it for at least 66 days before quitting?

Why don’t you try again, promising yourself to try it for minimum 66 days.

That’s all for today.

Adios and Happy Habits!!
