In a recent podcast (Re-thinking by Adam Grant) episode, Bob Sutton, organizational psychologist and bestselling author, said:

Indifference is as important as passion.

As a working mom, I couldn’t agree more.

Because I know that passion sucks so much of my energy and focus that it can get akin to self-destruction. If I am not careful about where I am sinking my emotional energy.

Indifference allows you to take a step back and see loopholes in your plans or actions.

Say you have your kid(s) steamrolling through the house just after you vacuumed the whole house.

Do you think being passionate (aka emotional) about a clean house or the right behaviour of your kid help you in doing the right thing?

No. Not all.

What will help is to be indifferent to what’s happening and then decide what is better – letting your kid have some fun or disciplining them (while also salvaging your cleaning efforts!!).

Or, say after a presentation your boss asks you to make umpteen changes and that too by morning.

What are your angry or frustrated about – the number of last minute changes or the tight deadline?

Being indifferent will help you figure out what should you fight for – less changes or more time.

Indifference helps you pick your battles wisely.

QUESTION TIME

When was the last time you really got frustrated with a personal or professional thing?

Was it because you got too passionate and emotionally involved?

That’s all for today.

Adios and Wish you a Life Full of Passion!!
