Sandwiches, anyone?

Depending on the time of the day and how delicious your sandwich looks, there could be a few takers.

Coleslaw sandwich, grilled cheese sandwich, chicken sandwich, club sandwich. You name it and there will be takers.

But trust me, no one wants a feedback sandwich.

What is a feedback sandwich?

Well, a negative feedback sandwiched between positive feedback is a feedback sandwich.

Plain and simple as that.

But no one wants it.

Why no one wants a feedback sandwich?

Because either the negative feedback gets lost in positive feedbacks, making the whole exercise a big waste.

Or the negative feedback overpowers the positive feedbacks, leaving the receiver grumpy.

So what’s the right way?

Here’s what I do or wish others did to me:

Four simple steps:

  1. ask the receiver if they want feedback.
  2. if no, discussion ends.
  3. if yes, say that you have both positive and negative feedback. what do they want to hear first.
  4. dish out the positive feedback the way you want. but take care to give the negative feedback constructively. i.e., rather than telling just what’s wrong, tell them how they can make it right.

That’s all for today.

Adios and Happy Criticising (Constructively!!)
