According to Oxford dictionary,

Palimpsest is a manuscript or piece of writing material on which later writing has been superimposed on effaced earlier writing.

The thing is, earlier writing is erased but its traces can still be seen even after new writing has been done over it.

And we moms are so much like these palimpsests.

We never forget to be little innocent girls even when we are all grown up women.

We still remember what it was like to be free spirit even after we choose to become partners to our other halves.

And we definitely remember it all after becoming moms, even if we choose to shove every other identity under the carpet.

The beauty of palimpsest comes form this:

The earlier writing, which is there but not there intrigues and challenges the reader.

ACTION TIME

Let’s promise ourselves that we will always be like palimpsest.

Remembering what it was like to be a little girl or free adult woman or caring partner even when the role of a loving mom seems to overpower everything else.

That’s all for today.

Adios Amigos and Happy Mothering!
