Growing up, I kept hearing a version of these standards for girls:

  • Be perfect
  • Avoid shame
  • Please others before self
  • Your own needs don’t matter
  • Everything must done perfectly every time

The problem with it is this:

We women prove ourselves again and again, but one moment of imperfection or weakness is enough to deem us imperfect and unlovable.

Growing up, I also thought that I was the unprivileged one, living in a third world country, and hence subject to these Neanderthal rules.

How wrong I was.
As I widened my horizons through books, movies and meeting people, I realised this was not region specific but gender specific.

ACTION STEP for today

Are you being help accountable to these benchmarks that every woman should conform to?

If yes, it’s time to stand up to them and let everyone know that you are enough. The way you are.

That’s all for today.

Adios Amigos!
