This Monday was a highly productive day.

I could finish lots of personal as well as professional tasks, and I can feel the load literally off my head.

It is not that I don’t have any pending tasks or deadlines now.

But what changed yesterday?

An analysis is in order.

One, I was hell bent on completing as many tasks as possible and striking them off my to do list.

Two, I devoted extra time.

Reduced 40 minute walk to 20 minutes. I did not compromise on my step count target for the day, but I had precious 20 minutes extra in the morning when I get most of my work done.

Skipped the morning inbox as well as social media time.

Three, I prioritised both personal and professional tasks aggressively, which meant I took up the most important once first and finish them..

Four, I spent 15 minutes in the morning to see if all the tasks I had planned for the day had all their prerequisites completed. There were two tasks where some research was still pending. I rescheduled them right away.

Five, I coaxed cajoled and negotiated with others – kids, husband, house help and clients – to squeeze in my own tasks.

Which also made me realise that I cannot really do this everyday.

No one can.

Lastly, I did the tasks in batches. I had to send 5 emails and three follow-ups for interviews for an article. I created all emails on a Notion page first, complete with email IDs and subject lines, and then it was just a matter of compose –> copy and paste 3 times –> send.

We under estimate how much time we lose in going through different documents to get information for our emails. Alt + tab can save you only so much time!!

I had to take printouts for a couple of personal as well as work-related stuff. I set aside 15 minutes to print all of them together.
