Remember I said yes to a group dance performance last month? If you don’t, you can read all about it here.

Being a non-dancer with zero flexibility, I was highly nervous on the first day of practice.

Turns out, I was not alone!

After days of practice, we all realised that synchronisation was a huge problem.

With deadline looming large, we decided to focus on other aspects rather than being stuck on that one aspect. Things like:

– getting feedback

- dress and presentation

- visibility for better performers

– covering the dance area during the performance

– creating an infectious environment of fun and frolic

– each participant focusing on giving their best on D-day

And I daresay, it worked!!

We enjoyed performing and got accolades from the audience.

Later on, when I watched the videos (to ensure the praise was not misplaced 😜), I realised this:

We all looked gorgeous and happy and had made much less mistakes than expected!

And the audience enjoyed too, which was the ultimate outcome we all wanted.

Here are the lessons I learnt from this experience:

Rather than overthinking and over planning, here is what we should do instead. Ask ourselves:

– How quickly can I get started?

- Who can help me learn from my mistakes?

– How quickly can I get customer/client feedback?

– How quickly can I transform myself based on feedback?

– What is more important: perfecting the results or shipping them?

Which brings me to the ACTION STEP for the day:

Think of one task or area where you are procrastinating because you want things to be perfect when they go out in the world.

To your boss or clients/customers.

Apply the five-step checklist (not all may apply to your case).

Complete the task and ship it out.

That’s all for today.

Adios Amigos!
